About the Artist:

I am a happy artist but totally ashamed of my husband, as you can tell he is in the very back of the family photo.  lol, did I get your attention?

Seriously, I am a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and artist.  Always first, God then my family.  I LOVE my family, I love being with them, I love laughing with them, sharing everything that is in their lives.  I think out of this love for my family a love of painting and creating began.  When the kids were young I started painting and making things for them....either to wear or projects in school.  Then I started painting more and more.

We lived on Wrightsville Beach for years and I could never grow flowers there, so one day I decided to just paint on rocks and make myself a rock garden.  Then I started giving my rocks away, people actually wanted them.  From there I started taking classes, went to workshops and conventions.  To this day I still take classes when I can, go to conventions, and attend workshops.  I am like a sponge, I want to soak up as much knowledge as I can.

I am Certified with Dewberry U as a One Stroke Instructor.  I teach acrylics and WOILS, and share new techniques with my students as I learn them.  I have been teaching for 11 years, and I love creating with my students....I have a passion to share with them and I love to see their faces when they get a new technique.

I painted an umbrella few years ago, I loved it.  I designed it for a class and then it was picked at a convention to get published.  Yea!

When anyone walks into my studio for the first time I usually hear.....Your work is happy.  And that is what I strive for.  I like to paint things that make me smile, and makes others smile.  I love to paint on every surface and use as many different mediums as I can.  I hope you will take the time to visit me at the studio or visit the gallery.

Artist’s Statement

I have been drawing and painting all my life, but a few classes in watercolor in the 1990s made me focus on a true love--the surprising actions of the watercolor medium.  It can be controlled to a point, but the final painting is a partnership between the elusive qualities of watercolor and myself, and that's what I love about it.  Now I paint almost exclusively in watercolor, but sometimes add acrylic and other mediums for texture and contrast.  My subjects include portraits of people and animals, landscape, still life, floral, and abstract.  I have also done murals in homes, schools, and businesses.  I love the challenge.

I have shown in many exhibits in Ohio and Florida, taken many prizes and awards, and my works are included in private and public collections throughout the country, including Ohio Government offices.

In early 2010 fellow artists Anita Anderson, Patricia Duane, and I created a large multi-wall mural featuring “the flora and fauna of local Florida” in the Children’s Reading Room in the Marion County Public Library on Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala.  And since then we have created five new murals in the Belleview area, including a huge mural on the side and back of Gallery East.

As past president of several art organizations, including Westerville Art League, and Knox County Art League in Ohio, and Ocala Art Group, and Gallery East in Marion County, Florida, the advancement of art in our community has been a heartfelt goal for me.  I have taught watercolor classes for many years in both Ohio and Florida because I love to encourage the artistic skills of my students.

I now live in the Wilmington, NC area, and have found a wonderful “art home” in my studio in The ArtWorks, 200 Willard Street, in Wilmington, where I can work and show my art.

Photorealism is an extremely realistic style of painting and drawing, in which the artwork is based entirely on a photograph. Photorealist art is most appreciated for its huge WOW! factor. People often mistakephotorealist paintings for actual photographs.
