“Everything’s Coming Up Roses” ––it’s the title of a popular song––melody by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim created title and lyrics for the Broadway musical “Gypsy”, 1959. The song was sung by Ethel Merman and became one of her signature songs.
Title and lyrics imply a positive twist––something upbeat happening. Imagine observing a graph where the line starts low and continues that way for a while but then rises, unexpectedly. The graph reveals a sharp uptick. All indicators look different, bright, hopeful. Likewise, this exhibition of art in Gallery Verrazzano lives in a world of positive upturn. At this time of year our days experience a steady lengthening of light. The earth under our feet will begin awakening––there’s new life. New adventures are in the wings!
