Common Roots Many Branches

WILMINGTON, NC -- The Arts Council of Wilmington/NHC, in collaboration with Live Oak Bank’s CHANNEL, will present “Common Roots, Many Branches”, an exhibition featuring works from the National Alliance of Artists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The exhibition, which features 100+ artworks created by professors and students, opens on Friday, January 28, during Fourth Friday Gallery Night, and will remain on display through April 30, 2022, at two sites:

Live Oak Bank’s CHANNEL, 106 Market St., 2nd floor
Gallery Verrazzano @ theArtWorks™, 200 Willard St.

An Artist Reception will be held on Fourth Friday, March 25, 2020.

Founded in 1999 the National Alliance of Artists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities includes 100 professional artists who are affiliated with HBCUs. NAAHBCU averages three exhibitions per year in museums, galleries, and institutions of higher learning. The organization embarked upon its first international traveling exhibition in 2020-21 to eight museums and galleries in India.

CHANNEL is Live Oak Bank’s inclusive small business center. The 5000 square foot facility is a collaborative hub assisting underserved minorities, women, and veteran-owned small businesses in the region.

“Our goal is to create a pathway to avoid costly mistakes while providing business owners with the tools they need for long-term success in three ways: small business education, introduction to the proper resources, and access to the right capital. This partnership with the Arts Council allows CHANNEL to showcase black art from some amazing artists and give back to the small business community through a grant program created from the proceeds of art sales,” said Chakema Clinton-Quintana, vice president of Inclusive Small Business at Live Oak Bank.

About the Arts Council

Celebrating its 10th year, the Arts Council is the nucleus of the $55.8 million local arts economy. In service to 100 for- and non-profit arts businesses, artists of all genres, and audiences, we have administered $1 million+ in grants to support the sector. Through our programs (Fourth Fridays and Pedestrian Art) and projects like the Wilmington Rail Trail, we have greatly expanded the footprint of the arts in New Hanover County.
